Translating ceRNA Susceptibilities into Correlation Functions.
Competition to bind microRNAs induces an effective positive cross talk between their targets, which are therefore known as "competing endogenous RNAs" (ceRNAs). Although such an effect is known to play a significant role in specific situations, estimating its strength from data and experimentally in physiological conditions appears to be far from simple. Here, we show that the susceptibility of...
متن کاملSusceptibilities, Correlation Functions and Neutron Scattering Law in Amorphous Magnets
-We caJculated the static and dynamic susceptibilities x (Q) and x (Q, w) , the neutron scattering cross-section S (Q) , and the scattering law S (Q, w ) for amorphous magnets with small random anisotropy. These results agree fairly well with those of a recent neutron-spin echo experiment on amorphous TbNiz. Amorphous magnets with random anisotropy commonly are described by the random anisotrop...
متن کاملCorrelation Functions: Getting into Shape
The ability to measure characteristics of source shapes using nonidentical particle correlations is discussed. Both strong-interaction induced and Coulomb induced correlations are shown to provide sensitivity to source shapes. By decomposing correlation functions with spherical or Cartesian harmonics, details of the shapes can be especially well isolated.

Y ou may have noticed that, at the end of the FPM CME quiz, we always ask, “Has anything you have read in the last few issues of FPM led you to change anything in your practice?” It’s gratifying to see that about 80 percent of respondents say yes, because we always strive to publish articles that have direct practical application and include tools that make implementation easier. Given FPM’s ...

Appropriately designed and conducted research is necessary for improving patient care and optimizing health outcomes, but access to best evidence is not enough to make these things happen. In respiratory care, as in other fields, patients do not benefit as much as they should from research findings and evidence-based practice guidelines. Current standards for the diagnosis, staging, and managem...
